On the recommendation of our mutual cousin Steven B., just finished reading Lawyer Boy during my spring break from. . . . my first year of law school! There's a similar trend on my side of the tree. Really enjoyed the book and helped put this complex year in perspective. Thanks.

Hi Rick Lax,
Just finished Lawyer Boy tonight and I really enjoyed it! As a 2L at a "Top 50" school haha...(I know you will make a joke about that) I definitely related to your writing. Keep up the great work. Maybe a book about 2L year or your first year out of law school? Was really sad that Cassandra gave up and got a drinking problem. Another thing, what is "predistigation" is that actually a field of law or a witty term for something else you are doing? Haha well enjoyed the book. Only other comment would be that you didn't really have a "duty" to tell Nadeeka about the wobbly chair. Under the rescue doctrine, you can choose to help or not correct? It is not like you were an employee of the bookstore. Ah so there I go on a legal argument. Would love to know what you are doing now! Practicing law or no?

As a third generation magician from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and a practicing attorney in Los Angles, I had to read your book. You and I may be the only people who enjoyed law school. Thanks for a good read, now try an Andrew Vachss book, another lawyer, but not a magician.

Hey Rick,

I was hanging out at the Barnes and Noble, looking a for a great book to read. I enjoyed reading One L so much, so I figured I would cruise the Law section. I picked up your book and enjoyed the few pages I read so I bought it. I stayed up until 5:30 am to finish your book. Great Work. It was a terrific read, good luck on your next book. p.s. Your Dad seems like he has a heart of gold, he was by far my favorite character.

I saw your latest trolling on LSD and it reminded me of your site - I believe I visited it once before I started law school (or very soon after I first started), and it made me just a little bit less scared. I figured if you had so much time to blog, well, maybe 1L wouldn't be as horrible as "One L" made it out to be. I just finished my first year of law school - also in Chicago, coincidentally. I think I'd like to read your book. I'll have to see if they have it at the library.

Mr. Lax,

You informed me during graduation that you inserted some comments I had made into your book. I am expecting royalties, of course. Otherwise I will have to find one of our fellow graduates to sue you for plagiarism, possible defamation, and Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress (or possible even Intentional Infliction, if you knew what you were doing at the time)... no joke.

Not everyone that goes through law school has to become a lawyer either, I personally sell novelties for a living and love it!

I'm impressed...the last time I saw you I was making you some sort of latte or something along those lines. I guess all that time you spent at Barnes and Noble you were actually doing some work.
